Deploying WireLessMesh Network

Currently me and my team is working on Deploying a wireless mesh in OscPro and later intend to scale it up to cover the entire city. The idea was of our company founder and he plans to provide the following servicces using the mesh Network Is

1)Internet Access

2)VOIP

3)Thin clients

Now Going Back to Some Detail about wireless mesh we have an excellent article on Wikipedia and the Article written by Mumbai Linux User Group that is available on wikia .

Going Back on the Mesh network it’s quite fascinating to see the way they work,

A Wireless mesh network is a mesh network implemented over a wireless network system such as wireless LAN.

Whereas the Internet is mostly a wire-based, co-operative electronic communication infrastructure similar to the international postal agreement, in that messages are mutually delivered and relayed within their separate domains free of charge (i.e. if you relay my messages within your domain I’ll relay yours within mine), Mesh is a wireless co-operative communication infrastructure between a massive amount of individual wireless transceivers (i.e. a wireless mesh) that have Ethernet type capabilities.

Now This Mesh networks have 70 Different protocols that can be used but the most used probably is olsr(optimized link state routing algorithm).

This mesh networks have been deployed Globally at

1)MIT

2)Berlin

3)Amsterdam

and probably 50 odd instances of they being in working condition .

THe Guys who deployed The Mesh Network in MIT have actually created a startup(called meraki.com) that deals with deploying Mesh Network in your community.Their model has actually caught since i believe they are probably making money by deploying mesh networks by selling the devices they have created .

More about the devices we plan to use and how we intend to deploy it in later blogs.

Some Questions For Linux Community..

I have Lots of questions in my mind which need to be Answered and I’m Just posting them as well posting my view or what i feel about those .

1)When Are we Guys Gonna innovate?

Innovate means Innovate In real sense.I believe that most apps(My Belief) that exist in at least the Linux Environment have been created after they Existed on some other Platforms.

2)When are we guys gonna stop Bashing Microsoft??

Why do we always have to compare ourself with Microsoft. Why do we have to unnecessarily bash MSFT whenever we compare linux and Microsoft? Why cant we just talk about the features that are there in Linux and talk about the potential of Linux without putting it through the lens of another OS?

3) When are we gonna stop being Arrogant??

Why do we have to have so In your face attitude when dealing with amateurs ..?

Opensuse vs K/Ubuntu head to head (Part-2)

Installation

Having Installed opensuse more than 10 times on my pc it was a breeze for me to install it,However if you the process of
installing form a newbies or noobs angles ill say its quite a tedious task,
1.Selecting Packages during installing is a quite tedious task or in’fact the new patterns neither makes it easier to install
2.Selecting what kind of encryption you want to store your password is quite a headache ,I mean people who just want to get their pc’s running why would they want to know what kind of encryption you want to use
3.However Suse does have an Advantage In hardware Configuration bcas it lets you config all the hardware before you log in to the system thats quite handy since suse never recognised my monitor and i had to do it manually and hence very Helpfull.

In K/ubuntu
k/Ubuntu Installation Is a breeze very quick just asks you user basic needs and asks you what partition you want to use or do you want to manually edit it
But i believe there is a huge drawback in all the ubuntu distros is that the cd distro that you download from the net does not conatin all the software needed to have a resemblance of a proper system(You need quanta kdevelop ,games which dont exist in the cd distro) while Suse does come with comprehensive list of software ,As far as i feel biggest draw back of K/Ubuntu is the standard list of software available with its standard disrto ,You do have a comprehensive list of repository where you can download all the software that you need but that cannot be the way for millions of people wo do not
have broadband connection i mean downloading 500 mb of software on a dialup would be a joke.

(There ia software called APTonCd that allows users to create a repository out of software already installed on a K/Ubuntu machine however from
newbies point of view that would be a little tedious,However from a Experienced users view point that piece software is god sent.)

Ill give opensuse 3/5

Ill give K/ubuntu 3/5

Kubuntu and openSUSE Head to Head (Part 1)

Starting Today I’m Going to Blog about Ubuntu vs openSUSE Head To head .Since Ubuntu has become my Biggest Passion.

Today I analyze Yast and Installing/Uninstalling Packages In bOth the distributions

1.YAST

OpenSUSE biggest advantage is that it has yast bundled with its distribution,it makes administrating your pc so hassle free It has all the elements that one needs

A.Install/Uninstall packages

B.Add devices,configure them

C.User management

D.All network tools needed for running any kind of server

A feature of YaST is that it contains both GUI and ncurses frontends. This is especially useful for non-GUI installations and for system administration over slow Internet connections.

YaST’s display configuration module is called SaX2 (which stands for SUSE Automated X configuration, version 2).

Yast went GPL sometime back but it hasn’t been included in any of other distributions ,only openSUSE has it as far as i know.

So this is a very Big Plus Point of openSUSE.

I’ll give 4/5 for this to openSUSE.

2.Package dependency’s

Everyone who uses Linux especially rpm base distro’s know how troublesome is to install any packages

RPM has also been criticized for a lack of consistency in package names and content (termed ‘dependency hell’) which can make automatic dependency handling difficult. However, this is not a problem inherent in the RPM format, but rather a problem of co-ordination amongst major Linux distributions that use RPM in packaging such as Red Hat Linux, SUSE, and Mandriva Linux. When using packages that are from a particular distribution (say Red Hat Linux) or built for a particular distribution (for example Freshrpms for Red Hat Linux[2]), tools such as yum or apt can perform automatic dependency checking. The number of unused dependencies is this format’s biggest drawback. Unlike some source RPMs (SRPM), dependencies built into binary RPMs are mandatory. The problem with this is that developers often compile-in everything they think an end-user is likely to need, resulting in unused software, wasted disk space, and potential security vulnerabilities. Mandriva Linux uses the tool urpmi to help with this problem.

I personally have gone through this Hell and i know how difficult it is for a Linux noob to use it I guess openSUSE gets a 1/5.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu Has Advanced Packaging Tool, or APT, is a package management system used by Debian GNU/Linux and its derivatives. APT simplifies the process of managing software on Unix-like operating systems, by automating the retrieval, configuration and installation of software packages, either from binary files or by compiling source code.

Here You don’t have to worry about getting Library’s or solving dependency’s Apt does it all in a jiffy ,So just select the software you want to install and get a cup of coffee.Back from the break and your Software is installed(Provided You have A Broadband connection,In India still majority of people don’t have broadband ,but the situation is improving)

I’ll give Ubuntu/Kubuntu for package management 5/5

In The next Part I’ll Review Installation And Administration.

So Long openSUSE

After contemplating for many days finally i shifted to Kubuntu was quite impressed before and continues to impress me now.The Reason I shifted to Kubuntu is Suse i feel is innovating Much in Desktop Arena.Having Used Suse for many YearS now i believe firmly that Suse is slow in innovation.

Take a Look at ubuntu/Kubuntu Feisty Fawn Release ,it is solid ,Stable And it allows users to add multimedia support without any hasle Now thats what you call a true Linux Distribution.
